Becoming A Published Writer Is HARD

Becoming a published writer is HARD. Honestly, it’s harder than anything I have ever done. From Lowest To Highest? I’d run that thing again 10x over if only it would make publishing my book easier. (Mmmh……..) The problem is best summarized by a reply I received from an outdoor magazine I pitched a story to: “We’re sorry, we like your style, but we only work with established writers.”

Well, how the HECK am I supposed to become an established writer if I’m not given the chance to establish myself?

It’s not just the magazine articles – I have almost the exact same problem with publishing my book. From what I’ve gathered in the form of silence or negative replies, publishers avoid unknown writers like the plague. “It helps to already have a large readership base. Work on increasing that first, then come back to us,” was one of the more constructive feedbacks.

WELL, IF I ALREADY HAD A LARGE READERSHIP BASE I WOULDN’T BE REACHING OUT TO YOU FOR PUBLISHING AND MARKETING ADVICE, WOULD I?!

It’s frustrating, to say the least.

So: If you’ve ever a giggle over my travel shenanigans, or been touched by the words I’ve put out here – it would mean the world to me if you could share that with others.

Pick a story that you’ve loved and tell your friends they should give it a read. Tag them on it, or post it in a story. Flood someone’s DM inbox with reading suggestions. Holler it out of your window if you so dare.

(Or, if you know a publisher or a literary agent specializing in adventure memoirs, please, please, please: release me from my misery and help me annoy-, I mean, get in touch with them. 😀 )

You can support me by reading my stories, and subscribing to my IG channel (publishers like it when marketing has already been done pre-publication… and when a market has already been established. 😉 )
